Toro Iseki

Toro Iseki (Toro archaeological site) is a nationally important Yayoi-period settlement site in Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan, known for well-preserved evidence of early wet-rice agriculture and village life. The site includes reconstructions of dwellings and storehouses and an on-site museum displaying recovered artifacts.

A sequence of reconstructed pit houses, raised granaries and fence lines that illustrate village layout and agricultural practices, plus the Shizuoka City Toro Museum which houses pottery, wooden tools and other finds. Interpretive displays explain farming techniques and daily life in the Yayoi period.

Excavations in the mid-20th century revealed the archaeological remains that led to reconstructions and the creation of a museum complex; the site has been used for both research and public education since then.

The site lies within Shizuoka city (Suruga Ward) and is reachable from central Shizuoka by local bus, making it a short excursion from the urban centre.
