Torneträsk
Lake Large subarctic Swedish lake in Lapland region
One of Sweden’s largest lakes in Lapland, Torneträsk draws hikers and northern-lights chasers for its long shoreline, cold alpine waters and proximity to Abisko National Park and Kungsleden trails.
Tornetre4sk is a large subarctic lake in Norrbotten County in Swedish Lapland. It is one of the largest lakes in the region, fed by mountain streams and glacial runoff.
The lake is a hub for outdoor recreation, with fishing, hiking and opportunities to view northern lights in winter. Several settlements and visitor facilities on the lake’s shores serve hikers and tourists exploring nearby national parks.
Tornetre4sk is a glacially formed lake; its shores and surrounding valleys have supported seasonal and permanent settlement for centuries and were traditionally used for fishing and reindeer herding by Sámi communities.
The lake lies in the Tornedalen/Scandinavian mountain region of northern Sweden, near the village and transport hubs that link the E10 route between Kiruna and Narvik and close to Abisko National Park.
