Torekov Archaeological Site

Torekov is a small coastal village and summer resort on the Bjäre Peninsula in Skåne County, southern Sweden, historically rooted in fishing and maritime activity. It is well known locally as a harbour and seasonal tourist destination and as the departure point for boats to the island of Hallands Väderö.

The village contains a compact harbour, bathing spots and a concentration of summer cottages and services serving day-trippers and holiday visitors. Torekov has a longstanding identity as both a fishing settlement and a resort that expanded in the 19th and 20th centuries as coastal tourism grew.

Torekov lies on the western coast of the Bjäre Peninsula in Skåne County, within Båstad Municipality and close to other coastal towns on Sweden’s south-western shore.

• Ferry to Hallands Väderö: Regular boat services depart from the Torekov harbour to the nearby nature reserve island of Hallands Väderö during the summer season.
• Political history: Site of the 1971 political meeting known as the Torekov Compromise, which affected the constitutional role of the Swedish monarchy.

• Visit in late spring or early summer for pleasant weather and boat connections to nearby Hallands Väderö - the island boat departs from Torekov's harbour and is a popular local excursion.
• Arrive at the harbour entrance for the village to catch boats and to get the best views of the fishing harbour and shoreline; parking fills early on summer weekends so come before mid-morning.
• If you want to avoid weekend crowds, go on a weekday or outside mid-July to early August when Swedish coastal villages are busiest with domestic holidaymakers.
• Most visitors stick to the main quay and village; take the short coastal paths north and south of the harbour for quieter viewpoints and traditional wooden cottages.
