ToninE1 is an archaeological Maya site in the highlands of Chiapas, Mexico, known for its steep terraces, monumental architecture and prolific carved stonework. It was an important regional capital during the Classic period of Maya civilization.
The site includes a large acropolis with terraces and stairways, a ballcourt, plazas and many carved monuments and hieroglyphic texts. Visitors explore terraces and sculptures that document political history and rituals.
ToninE1 rose to prominence during the Classic Maya era and was occupied across several centuries, with many monuments dated to the Late Classic period. Its inscriptions and reliefs provide information on local rulers and regional conflicts.
