How to Get to Tongzhou

Tongzhou is an eastern district of Beijing; most visitors arrive via Beijing's airports (Beijing Capital PEK and Beijing Daxing PKX) or by rail into Beijing's main stations and then transfer by subway or taxi. Allow extra time for transfers and peak-hour traffic when coming from the airports or long‑distance train stations.

By Air

Beijing Capital International Airport (PEK): The airport is northeast of central Beijing; from PEK you can take the Airport Express to central Beijing and then the subway or a taxi into Tongzhou. Airport Express to Dongzhimen costs about 25 CNY and takes ~30 minutes; from Dongzhimen a subway connection into eastern Beijing / Tongzhou will add roughly 30-50 minutes and 3-7 CNY depending on distance. A direct taxi from PEK to Tongzhou typically costs around 100-180 CNY and takes 40-70 minutes depending on traffic.

Beijing Daxing International Airport (PKX): Daxing is south of the city; the Daxing Airport Express links the airport with the subway network. The express fare to the nearest interchange is about 25 CNY and the rail journey to the central network takes ~20-30 minutes; allow another 40-60 minutes on the subway or a taxi to reach Tongzhou (subway fares 3-7 CNY). A taxi from PKX to Tongzhou is usually 120-220 CNY and can take 50-80 minutes depending on time of day.

By Train & Bus

Train: Major rail hubs for long-distance and high-speed services are Beijing South Railway Station and Beijing Railway Station; many overnight and high-speed services terminate at these stations. From any major Beijing rail station you can transfer to the Beijing Subway to reach Tongzhou - expect a combined transfer time of roughly 30-60 minutes on the metro plus a subway fare of 3-7 CNY for most journeys. Taxis from the main stations to Tongzhou cost roughly 40-150 CNY depending on distance and traffic.

Bus: Tongzhou is well served by Beijing city buses and local coach services; local urban buses typically cost 2 CNY with a Beijing Yikatong card for short trips. Regional and intercity coaches run to and from Tongzhou passenger hubs (通州客运站) and other Beijing coach terminals; fares vary by distance (typically from ~15 CNY for nearby suburbs up to several dozen CNY for longer routes) and travel time depends on traffic.

How to Get Around Tongzhou

The Beijing Subway (including lines serving Tongzhou) is the best option for speed and value across the city; use it for most mid- to long-distance trips. Taxis/DiDi and shared bikes are the easiest ways to cover first/last-mile connections or travel late at night, while buses fill in local coverage where the subway doesn't reach.
