The Tokaj Wine Region Historic Cultural Landscape is a UNESCO World Heritage cultural landscape in northeastern Hungary centred on the town of Tokaj and surrounding vineyard slopes. It is noted for a long history of viticulture and a distinctive system of terraced vineyards and cellar practices linked to production of Tokaji wines.
Visitors encounter planted slopes, partitioned vineyard parcels and village settlements with historic cellars used for ageing and storing wine. The area is defined by its combination of natural slopes, river confluences and man-made vineyard layout that supports production of botrytised sweet wines.
Viticulture in the Tokaj area developed over many centuries; the landscape and technical practices evolved to produce the region’s signature wines, and many of the vineyards and cellars retain features dating to the early modern period and later.
The region lies in northeastern Hungary around the confluence of the Bodrog and Tisza rivers and includes a number of historic wine towns and vineyard sites.

The Tokaj Wine Region is centred on the town of Tokaj in northeastern Hungary. It is reachable by car from Budapest (major highways and then regional roads) in a few hours, and regular regional trains also serve Tokaj from larger Hungarian rail hubs (routes via Miskolc and other regional centres). Vineyards and cellar roads around Tokaj are accessed by local roads; expect short drives or walks from the town to individual winery sites.

- Book cellar visits and tastings in advance with smaller family wineries (in Tokaj town, Mád and surrounding villages) - many producers operate by appointment and that's the best way to taste rare aszú vintages.
