Timbavati Private Nature Reserve

Timbavati Private Nature Reserve is a privately managed game reserve in Limpopo province, South Africa, adjoining Kruger National Park and forming part of the Greater Kruger conservation area. It is noted for big-game safaris and has a longstanding reputation for sightings of the Big Five and occasional white lions.

The reserve offers guided game drives and walking safaris operated by private lodges and camps; typical safari activities focus on early-morning and late-afternoon drives when animals are most active. Tracks and hides provide photographic opportunities for species including elephant, lion, leopard, buffalo and a variety of ungulates and birds.

The reserve was created by landowners removing internal fences to allow wildlife to move freely across properties and has since been managed cooperatively by private concession holders. Management has emphasized wildlife conservation and eco-tourism while maintaining privately run camps and concessions.

Timbavati sits along the western boundary of Kruger National Park in the Lowveld of northeastern South Africa; the area is characterized by mopane and mixed bushveld habitat. Nearby towns include Hoedspruit and Phalaborwa, which serve as common access points for visitors.
