The New York Times Building is a commercial skyscraper in Midtown Manhattan that houses the headquarters of The New York Times Company; it was completed in 2007. The design is a collaboration between Renzo Piano and the architectural firm Fox & Fowle.

The building is noted for its lightweight glazed façade with an external ceramic rod screen that reduces solar gain and gives the tower a distinctive textured appearance. Internally it contains office floors designed for newsroom and corporate functions and public-level retail space at street level.

Commissioned by The New York Times as a new corporate headquarters, the tower was developed in the early 2000s and completed in 2007; it replaced the company’s earlier Midtown offices. The project was part of a broader wave of early-21st-century commercial development in Midtown Manhattan.

The tower stands in Midtown Manhattan on Eighth Avenue between 40th and 41st Streets in New York City, within walking distance of Times Square and the Port Authority bus terminal.

  • Architect and completion: Designed by architect Renzo Piano in collaboration with the firm Fox & Fowle (now FXCollaborative) and completed in 2007, the building serves as headquarters for The New York Times Company.
  • Structure and features: The tower rises to 52 storeys and features a ceramic rod screen and curtain-wall system intended to improve energy performance and visual articulation.
