The Istana is the official residence and office of the President of Singapore, located in central Singapore. The building occupies a 19th century colonial-era estate and functions as the venue for state receptions and official functions.

On days when it is opened to visitors the site offers access to formal reception rooms and the surrounding gardens, and photo opportunities on the public paths. The grounds are also used for ceremonial events such as investitures and state functions.

Originally constructed in the 19th century as a colonial government residence, the compound later became the seat of Singapore’s head of state and adapted for official use. It remains the main location for presidential ceremonies and formal entertaining.

The Istana sits on Orchard Road in central Singapore and is most easily reached by MRT. Take the North-South Line to Orchard MRT (NS22) or the Circle/NS lines to nearby Dhoby Ghaut; both are about a 10-15 minute walk to The Istana through Orchard Road and Istana Park. Taxis and ride-hailing services can drop you at the main gate on Orchard Road; parking and vehicle access are limited and the grounds are publicly open only on designated public holidays and special events.
