The Castle, Newcastle

The Castle in Newcastle is a medieval fortress complex in central Newcastle upon Tyne whose surviving elements include a 12th-century stone keep and the adjoining Black Gate. The fortress gave the town its name - ‘Newcastle’ - and remains a focal historic monument in the city centre.
