Tell Tayinat

Tell Tayinat is an archaeological tell in the Amuq plain of Hatay Province in southern Turkey, with stratified remains from the Bronze Age through the Iron Age. It is a key site for studying late Bronze and Iron Age states in the northern Levant.

Visitors to or readers about the site typically encounter remains of monumental architecture at the acropolis and evidence of a substantial lower town, including building foundations and public structures uncovered in excavations. Excavations have produced stone architectural elements, inscriptions and pottery that illustrate local urban development.

The site was occupied in the late Bronze Age and became particularly significant in the Iron Age under Neo-Hittite and related polities; archaeological work in the 20th and 21st centuries has clarified many aspects of its urban and cultic architecture.
