How to Get to Tejen
Tejen is reached mainly overland from Ashgabat, Turkmenistan's international airport, or by rail on domestic services that stop at Tejen station. Road travel - shared taxis or buses - is the usual way to complete the journey from the capital.
Ashgabat International Airport (ASB): Ashgabat is the main international gateway for Turkmenistan. From Ashgabat you’ll continue overland to Tejen by bus, shared taxi or private transfer - the drive is typically 2.5-4 hours depending on service and stops.
Mary / Turkmenabat airports: The country’s other airports offer limited domestic connections; Mary and Turkmenabat are farther away and not the usual arrival points for visitors to Tejen.
Train: Tejen is on Turkmenistan’s railway network (Trans-Caspian corridor) and has a railway station that receives domestic passenger trains; trains connect Tejen with Ashgabat and other regional cities. Check state railway schedules as services are irregular.
Bus: Intercity buses and shared taxis run between Ashgabat and Tejen; shared taxis are often faster than buses and a common local option for the ~200-300 km road route.

Tejen’s centre is small enough to explore on foot for short trips. Local transport relies on shared taxis and marshrutkas for intercity connections; scheduled buses link Tejen with larger towns such as Ashgabat.
