Tegelberg

Tegelberg is a mountain in the Bavarian Alps above the village of Schwangau in southern Germany, rising to roughly 1,880 metres. It is a prominent local summit used for outdoor recreation and alpine viewing.

A network of marked footpaths and mountain trails leads across the slopes, with a cable car providing easy access to the upper station and summit plateau. The summit offers panoramic views across the Ammergau Alps and the valley below, and the upper slopes are a well-known paragliding launch area.

The mountain has long been used for recreation rather than as a fortified or industrial site. Modern visitor infrastructure centres on the cable car and established trail network; local services in the Schwangau/Füssen area support day visitors.

Tegelberg sits above the village of Schwangau near the town of Füssen in Bavaria, close to the Austrian border. The mountain occupies a position in the northern reaches of the Ammergau Alps, overlooking nearby lakes and alpine valleys.

• Best light: Early morning and late afternoon light give the best views across the valley and toward nearby castles and lakes.
• Access and weather: Summit access is commonly by the cable car; weather can change quickly at alpine altitude so dress in layers.

• Tegelbergbahn (cable car): Provides direct lift access from the valley to the upper slopes and summit area; the lower and upper stations are the usual start and end points for hikes and paragliding launches.
• Summit plateau: A broad summit plateau at roughly 1,880 metres elevation offering panoramic views across the Ammergau Alps and the valley below.
• Hiking trails: Marked trails of varying difficulty link the summit with Schwangau, nearby peaks and alpine pastures; routes are used for summer hiking and winter ski touring.
• Paragliding launch: A long-established launch area on the upper slopes used by paragliders and hang-gliders when conditions are favourable.
