Teatro Colón

Teatro Colón is Buenos Aires’ premier opera house and one of the world’s renowned opera venues, located in the city’s central district. It is noted for its historic architecture and celebrated acoustics.

The theatre’s main auditorium hosts opera, ballet and symphonic concerts with a richly decorated interior and a horseshoe-shaped seating plan that accommodates around 2,400 people. Guided tours are available that show the foyer spaces, stage areas and historical rooms when performances are not running.

The current theatre building was inaugurated in 1908 after a multi-year construction project led by international architects; it has hosted generations of national and international performers. A substantial restoration and modernization took place in the early 21st century to update facilities while preserving historic features.

Located in central Buenos Aires near major avenues and cultural institutions, the theatre sits within walking distance of the city’s principal plazas and transport links.
