The Tbilisi Sea is an artificial reservoir on the outskirts of Georgia’s capital, Tbilisi, created to supply water and provide recreational space for the city. It is the largest water body in the immediate Tbilisi area.
The reservoir is used for boating, lakeside recreation, and local leisure activities, with developed shoreline areas and open spaces in places. Water levels and use have varied with infrastructure and seasonal management.
Construction and enlargement works for the reservoir took place in the mid-20th century as part of urban and water-management planning for Tbilisi. Since then it has been a persistent geographic feature north of the city used for both utility and recreation.
