The Talysh Mountains are a forested mountain range in southeastern Azerbaijan extending along the border with Iran, known for humid, temperate forests and rich biodiversity. The range rises from low coastal plains to forested slopes and forms a distinct ecological zone in the Lankaran and Masally regions.
The mountains are characterised by dense broadleaf and mixed forests, varied microclimates and numerous endemic species of plants and animals. The area is used for local agriculture in lower valleys and for hiking and nature study in upland zones.
The range runs close to the Caspian coast in the south of Azerbaijan and continues across the international border into northwestern Iran, forming a natural barrier between lowland plains and higher interior plateaus.
