The Talkeetna Mountains are a mountain range in south-central Alaska located near the town of Talkeetna and north of the Cook Inlet region. The range forms part of the complex mountainous terrain between the Alaska Range and the coastal lowlands.
The mountains have been part of Alaska’s natural landscape long before modern settlement; they were used seasonally by Indigenous peoples and later by prospectors and outdoor recreationists as access to interior Alaska increased. Land management has involved a mix of state, federal and private ownership over time.
The range lies inland from the Cook Inlet and north of the Matanuska and Susitna river corridors, with the town of Talkeetna serving as a regional gateway.
