Taimu Mountain Travel Guide

Not to be confused with Taimu Mountain in southern Taiwan, mainland China’s Taimu Mountain sits in coastal Fujian province facing the East China Sea. It offers fine hiking and scenic areas as well as unbeatable sea views.

Taimu Mountain is on par with Yandang Mountain in northern Fujian. It is, however, a fair way from Fuzhou and a bit of a nail-biting bus ride. The mountain is pretty large and is one of precipitous cliffs, deep caves, and thundering waterfalls. It has heavily eroded flanks and peaks with odd shapes said to represent fish, such as Nine Carps Facing Sky (Jiuli Chaotian).

There are five main scenic areas at Taimu Mountain, including: Nine Carps, Sunny Plain and Seashore, Fuyao Islands, Crystal Green Lake, and Mulberry Garden. Two must-see structures while on the mountains are the Ruiyun Temple and Lengcheng Ancient Castle.

Taimu Mountain is linked to Fuzhou by bus (2 hours, 30 minutes). The hiking here is very good and although the mountain is only a little over 900m above sea level, the coastal setting makes it seem even higher.

Getting There & Away

Fuzhou Changle International Airport is the gateway town to Taimu Mountain, with flights from Shanghai taking 1 hour, 30 minutes. It also receives flights from all major Chinese cities, as well as from Hong Kong and Singapore. Taimu Mountain is a 3-hour bus trip from Fuzhou along the main Fuzhou-Hangzhou S301 highway.
