Täby Church

Täby Church is a medieval parish church in Täby Municipality, Stockholm County, north of central Stockholm; the stone church dates to the 13th century and is noted for its late-medieval wall paintings. It is one of the best-known examples of interior mural work by the Swedish painter Albertus Pictor.

The church interior displays a rich cycle of frescoes painted in the late 15th century, with narrative religious scenes and the famous motif of Death playing chess. The murals are the primary reason visitors travel to the church and are seen as important examples of Scandinavian medieval art.

The present stone church was built in the 13th century and received its extensive interior decoration during the late 1400s when Albertus Pictor and his workshop painted many Swedish churches. The frescoes have been conserved and form the main historic feature of the building.

Located in the Täby kyrkby area of Täby Municipality, Stockholm County, the church sits roughly 15 kilometres north of central Stockholm.
