Syntagma Square is the central public square of Athens, Greece, located directly in front of the Hellenic Parliament building. It functions as the city’s main civic and transport focal point and is a primary gathering place for events.

The square features gardens, fountains and pedestrian areas and is the site of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier where the presidential guard performs ceremonial hourly changes. It is also a starting point for major city streets and promenades leading through central Athens.

The square gained its modern name from the Constitution (syntagma) granted to King Otto after 1843 and has since been the focus for political demonstrations, state ceremonies and urban redevelopment. Over time it has evolved into a central transport interchange and public meeting place.

Syntagma Square sits in central Athens adjacent to major government buildings, with direct metro, bus and tram connections and within easy walking distance of many historic districts and archaeological sites.

• Parliament and guard ceremony: The square fronts the Hellenic Parliament building and contains the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, where the Evzones perform the hourly guard change.
• Transport hub: Syntagma is served by a major metro hub with the same name, making it the primary public-transport gateway to central Athens.

Syntagma Square is served directly by Syntagma metro station (Lines 2 and 3). Numerous city buses and trolleybuses stop around the square; it is within easy walking distance of the historic centre including Plaka and Monastiraki.

• Visit at the hour change of the Evzones (presidential guard) outside the Parliament for ceremonial spectacle.
• Walk the pedestrianised streets off Syntagma early in the morning for quieter cafés and better photos of the square before midday crowds arrive.
