Syedra is an archaeological ruin of an ancient coastal city in Antalya Province on Turkey’s southern Anatolian shore. The site preserves Hellenistic and Roman-period remains including defensive walls, a theatre and funerary monuments.
Prominent features include long stretches of city walls that follow the cliffline, a small theatre set into the hillside and a necropolis of rock-cut tombs. The ruins are set on a steep coastal promontory and provide views over the Mediterranean.
Syedra was founded in the Hellenistic era and remained occupied through Roman and Byzantine periods before eventual decline and abandonment. Excavations and surface remains show urban planning typical of coastal Anatolian cities of these periods.
The site lies directly on the Mediterranean coast within Antalya Province in southern Turkey and is accessed from coastal roads; it stands on a rocky promontory above the sea.
