The Sydney Observatory sits on Observatory Hill in the Millers Point area of Sydney, New South Wales. It is a 19th-century observatory now operating as a public museum and astronomy centre.

The compact site is walkable in an hour or two and is often visited together with nearby The Rocks and the harbour foreshore.

The observatory was established in the 19th century and served colonial and later state astronomical, meteorological and timekeeping functions. Over time the facility transitioned from a working state observatory to a public museum and education centre while retaining its historic telescopes and buildings.

Perched on Observatory Hill in Millers Point, the observatory overlooks Sydney Harbour and sits within the inner-city precinct adjacent to The Rocks and close to the central business district. It is easily reached from central Sydney by short road or pedestrian routes.
