Sutjeska National Park is a protected mountain park in southeastern Bosnia and Herzegovina covering high peaks, deep river valleys and old-growth forest. It is one of the country’s principal national parks and conservation areas.
The park contains steep alpine terrain, long-distance hiking routes and significant natural landmarks such as primeval forest tracts and high summits. Outdoor activities include hiking, mountaineering and guided visits to natural and historical sites.
The area saw major wartime events in 1943 during the Battle of Sutjeska; it was later set aside for conservation and national park status in the mid-20th century to protect its unique natural values, including ancient forest stands.
