Subashi Temple

Subashi Temple is the archaeological remains of a Buddhist monastery complex near Turpan in Xinjiang, China, associated with Silk Road settlement and religious activity. The site preserves foundations, stucco fragments and sculptural remains dating to the early medieval period.

The ruins include platformed temple foundations and fragments of large figurative sculpture that point to a substantial monastic community and temple architecture. The site is notable for its Silk Road context and for the material evidence of Buddhist practice in the Turpan basin.

Archaeological work has identified the complex as active in the early medieval period, with material and architectural forms linked to Tang-era and earlier Silk Road Buddhist sites; the monastery declined as major cultural and religious changes affected the region.

The site lies in the Turpan Basin of Xinjiang, east of the modern city of Turpan and close to the arid slopes known as the Flaming Mountains; access is typically by road from Turpan and visits are subject to local travel arrangements.
