Stockholm City Hall
Building Iconic civic building hosting Nobel banquet and tours
Stockholm City Hall houses municipal offices and ceremonial halls, including the Blue Hall used for the annual Nobel banquet; guided tours reveal the building’s brick architecture and tower views.
Stockholm City Hall is a prominent civic building on the waterfront of Kungsholmen, completed in 1923 and designed by architect Ragnar Östberg. The complex houses municipal offices, ceremonial halls and reception spaces and is recognized for its distinctive red-brick architecture and tall tower.
Notable interior spaces include the Blue Hall, which is used for the city’s Nobel Banquet, and the Golden Hall with its mosaic decoration; guided tours commonly include the tower viewpoint when it is open to the public. The building’s design integrates ceremonial, administrative and representational functions and is an important landmark in Stockholm’s cityscape.
Construction of the present building was completed in the early 1920s following Östberg’s design, and the city hall has since been used for official municipal functions, receptions and cultural events. Conservation work has preserved many original decorative features and public spaces.
The city hall occupies a waterfront site on Kungsholmen island, overlooking Riddarfjärden in central Stockholm and within walking distance of Gamla Stan and other central districts.
