St. Vital

St. Vital is a residential district of the city of Winnipeg in Manitoba, Canada, located on the city’s southeast side. It is an established suburban community with notable parks and commercial centres.

The area offers riverfront green space along the Red and Seine rivers, with walking paths, picnic areas and sports fields that serve local residents. A major shopping hub serves south Winnipeg and there are neighbourhood commercial streets with restaurants and services.

Settlement in the St. Vital area began in the 19th century with a strong francophone presence; it later developed as a separate municipality before being amalgamated into the City of Winnipeg during the 1972 municipal unification. Over the 20th century it transformed from rural and village settlements into primarily residential suburbs.

Situated on the east bank of the Red River in the southern part of Winnipeg, St. Vital lies southeast of the downtown core and is one of the city’s larger residential communities.
