St. Gereon’s Basilica is a Romanesque church in Cologne, Germany, and is part of the city’s group of twelve major Romanesque churches. It is particularly noted for its unusual decagonal choir and long medieval building history.

The basilica’s ten-sided choir and large vaulted spaces are distinctive features and a focal point for visitors interested in Romanesque architecture. The interior contains medieval masonry and later fittings, and the building is commonly included on heritage walking routes through Cologne.

Built and modified between the early Middle Ages and the high medieval period, the church occupies a site with ancient origins and acquired its present Romanesque character largely between the 11th and 13th centuries. It has been repaired and conserved repeatedly across subsequent centuries.

Situated on Gereonsplatz in Cologne’s Innenstadt, the basilica lies to the west of the city’s main Gothic cathedral and is easily reached on foot from the central shopping and historic areas.

• Try to catch the light early morning when the west windows catch dust motes and the dome's patterns look almost Byzantine.
• Descend to the crypt and notice medieval graffiti - pilgrims' marks scratched into stone centuries ago.
