Sneeuberge is a mountain range in the central Eastern Cape of South Africa, its name meaning “Snow Mountains” in Afrikaans and noted for occasional winter snowfall. The highest point is Kompasberg, rising to about 2,502 m.
The area is visited for upland hiking, mountain fynbos and rural scenery; summit routes up Kompasberg provide extensive views over the surrounding Great Karoo. Scattered farm roads and gravel tracks give access to lower slopes and river valleys where private farms and grazing land dominate.
The range has long been used for pastoral agriculture and sheep farming; modern access is by secondary roads from nearby towns. Over time the region has remained largely rural with no large urban development on the uplands.
Geographically the Sneeuberge sit inland in the Eastern Cape, within the semi-arid Great Karoo landscape, with Graaff-Reinet the nearest principal town and Cradock further to the east.

The Sneeuberge region is accessible by road from Graaff‑Reinet (about 100-200 km depending on which valley is targeted). Regional roads connect the higher farms and reserve areas; a car is strongly recommended for moving between trailheads and small towns.
