Slovak Paradise National Park

Slovak Paradise National Park (Slovenský raj) is a protected mountain area in eastern Slovakia noted for its steep gorges, waterfalls and cliff-carved trails. The park preserves extensive karst plateaus and wooded river valleys.

Hiking is the principal activity, with a network of marked trails that include fixed ladders, chains and wooden walkways allowing passage through narrow gorges and over stream gullies. Popular routes include the laddered gorge of Suchá Belá, the canyon of the Hornád River and several scenic viewpoints such as Tomášovský výhľad.

The area has been managed for conservation since the 20th century and was designated as a national park to protect its distinctive karst landscape and biodiversity. Trails and visitor infrastructure have been developed to concentrate access and reduce impacts on sensitive areas.

The park lies in the Prešov Region of northeastern Slovakia, on the northern edge of the Slovak Ore Mountains and within easy driving distance of towns such as Spišská Nová Ves and Poprad.

• Trail equipment: Many main hiking routes include fixed metal ladders, chains and bridges; these sections are exposed and require care, especially when wet or crowded.
• Area and season: The park covers roughly nineteen thousand hectares and is most popular for day hikes between late spring and early autumn when trails are passable.

• Suchá Belá: A narrow gorge crossed by steel ladders and wooden walkways, known for its laddered trails and rocky walls that require surefooted hiking and produce dramatic canyon scenery.
• Prielom Hornádu: A deeper river canyon carved by the Hornád River, featuring narrow passages, cliff faces and marked hiking routes that run along river terraces and occasional footbridges.
• Tomášovský výhľad: A viewpoint on a sandstone cliff offering clear panoramas over the park's plateaus and forested gorges; a short marked trail leads from nearby parking to the outlook.
