About Slavín

Slavín is a prominent memorial and military cemetery commemorating Soviet soldiers who fell during the liberation of Bratislava in April 1945, in the Bratislava, Brno offensive against German forces and remaining Slovak troops aligned with the wartime Tiso government.

It stands on a hill in a villa and embassy district near central Bratislava, which gives it a quieter atmosphere than the city below and makes it a notable viewpoint as well as a place of remembrance.

The site combines monumental commemorative architecture with a cemetery layout, so it reads both as a landmark you can see from afar and as a solemn place to walk through respectfully.
