Slapy Reservoir is an artificial lake on the Vltava River in the Czech Republic created by a dam and used for hydroelectric power, water regulation and recreation. It is one of the larger reservoirs on the Vltava downstream of Prague.
The reservoir is used extensively for boating, bathing and lakeside cottages; marinas and campsites line parts of the shore and pleasure-boat traffic is common in summer. The water body provides long sheltered stretches suitable for motor and sail craft.
The reservoir was formed when a dam was built on the Vltava in the mid-20th century to produce electricity and regulate the river flow. Since then the area developed significant recreational infrastructure and lakeside settlements.
Slapy lies on the Vltava River about 35-45 kilometres south of Prague, with the closest small towns and villages on its shores and forested hills rising away from the water.
