Singara is an ancient city site in northern Mesopotamia, in present-day Nineveh Governorate, Iraq, identified with a fortified settlement active in late antiquity. It is documented in Roman and Byzantine sources as a frontier fortress and urban centre.
The site figures in military history from the 3rd to 5th centuries AD, including recorded clashes between Roman and Sasanian Persian forces. Archaeological remains are reported in the area around the modern Sinjar region.
Geographically it lies in the plains and foothills of northern Mesopotamia near the Sinjar area in Nineveh Governorate.
