Sincholagua Volcano Mountain

Sincholagua is a stratovolcano in Pichincha Province, Ecuador, situated in the central Andes west of Quito. It forms part of the volcanic landscape that includes more prominent peaks such as Cotopaxi.

The volcano’s slopes are used by local hikers and mountaineers; routes vary in difficulty depending on snow and weather conditions. From higher points on Sincholagua it is possible to see surrounding Andean volcanoes and highland plains on clear days.

Sincholagua is located in the highland region of Pichincha Province, within reach of Quito by road but in a more remote mountain setting. The surrounding terrain is high-altitude Andean páramo and volcanic ridges.

• Climbing and views: The volcano is less frequently climbed than nearby Cotopaxi and offers wide views of the central Andean highlands when weather permits.

The volcano is accessed from the Quito area; approaches typically start from rural highland communities and require guides. Travel from Quito takes a few hours by road to trailheads; due to altitude, acclimatization in Quito or nearby altiplano towns is necessary.
