How to Get to Silbury Hill #
Silbury Hill sits beside the Avebury stone circle in Wiltshire. By road it’s reached via the local lanes off the A361/A4361 around Avebury; there is a public car park in Avebury village and the hill is a 5-10 minute walk from the village/car park. The nearest mainline railheads are Swindon and Pewsey; from those towns visitors use local buses or taxis to reach Avebury.

- Go early morning or late afternoon from the nearby Avebury car park for the best light and quieter walks; Silbury Hill itself is fenced and cannot be climbed, so enjoy the mound from the surrounding paths and viewpoints.
- Approach on foot via the Avebury stone circle and the public footpaths rather than trying to drive to the closest roadside-this gives better context with neighbouring prehistoric monuments and avoids limited roadside parking.
- Most visitors miss the wider Neolithic landscape: include a short walk to nearby West Kennet Long Barrow or the Ridgeway viewpoints to understand the interlinked sites rather than focusing only on the mound.
