Signal de Botrange

Signal de Botrange is the highest natural point in Belgium at 694 metres above sea level, located in the High Fens (Hautes Fagnes) nature region in eastern Belgium. It is an accessible upland plateau of bogs, heath and peatlands that contrasts with the lowlands elsewhere in the country.

The site is a popular starting point for walking and nature trails across the High Fens, and visitor infrastructure at the summit includes a marker, information panels and nearby refuges such as Baraque Michel. The plateau experiences colder, wetter weather than much of Belgium and supports specialized bog ecosystems.

The High Fens and Signal de Botrange sit near the German border in eastern Wallonia and are part of a cross-border upland area; the location is commonly reached from nearby towns by road and used for both nature tourism and scientific monitoring of upland peatland habitats.

Signal de Botrange lies within the Hautes Fagnes-Eifel natural region, forming one of Belgium’s most distinct upland landscapes.
