Sigmund Freud Museum (Vienna)

The Sigmund Freud Museum in Vienna is located at Berggasse 19 in the Alsergrund district, in the apartment where Freud lived and maintained his practice for decades. The museum interprets Freud’s life, work and the early history of psychoanalysis.

Exhibits centre on the preserved rooms of the apartment, including the study and consultation areas, and present documents, photographs and displays about Freud’s career and the development of psychoanalytic theory. The museum also hosts temporary exhibitions and a research library.

Freud occupied the address from 1891 until his departure from Austria in 1938. The museum opened later to commemorate his work and to preserve the historic rooms as an educational site.

Berggasse 19 is in Vienna’s central districts, north of the Innere Stadt and reachable by public transport from the city centre.
