Sierra de Mijas
Mountains Low mountain ridge above Marbella and Malaga coast
The Sierra de Mijas forms Malaga’s inland backdrop, with trails climbing from white villages such as Mijas Pueblo; hikers and mountain-bikers use its tracks for sea views over the Costa del Sol.
Sierra de Mijas is a small coastal mountain range in the province of Málaga in Andalusia, southern Spain, overlooking the Costa del Sol. It forms a natural backdrop to coastal towns such as Mijas Pueblo, Fuengirola and Marbella.
The range is popular for short hikes, viewpoints and rural tourism activities that offer views across the Mediterranean; trails and local roads provide access from nearby towns. Vegetation includes Mediterranean scrub and woodland typical of the region.
Historically the hills have been used for small-scale agriculture and grazing and host traditional white villages on their slopes. Development along the coast has made the range a visible natural element for the Costa del Sol urban corridor.
Geographically the Sierra de Mijas sits immediately north of the coastal belt of the Costa del Sol, within easy reach of Málaga city to the east and other coastal resorts.
