Sibiu Lutheran Cathedral (the Evangelical Cathedral of Saint Mary) is the principal Gothic church in Sibiu, Romania, and an historic center of the Transylvanian Saxon community. Construction began in the medieval period and the building has served as the city’s main Protestant church since the Reformation.
The cathedral is notable for its tall tower and gothic interior proportions, and it dominates the skyline of Sibiu’s central squares. The interior contains medieval stonework, painted features and later furnishings associated with the Evangelical parish.
Located in Sibiu’s historic center, the cathedral fronts the main marketplace (Piața Mare) and sits adjacent to other civic and museum buildings that form the core of the old town.

The Evangelical (Lutheran) Cathedral in Sibiu is in the historic center (Piața Mare/Piața Huet). From Sibiu railway station it is an easy walk of roughly 1-1.5 km (about 15-20 minutes) into the old town where the cathedral stands. From Sibiu International Airport a taxi or airport shuttle takes about 10-15 minutes to the city centre (a few kilometres)-once in the historic centre the cathedral is on foot within minutes.
