Shishapangma is an 8,027-metre peak in the Himalaya located in the Tibet Autonomous Region of China, and it is the lowest of the world’s 14 eight-thousand-metre mountains. The mountain has a compact glaciated massif and is known for a main summit with adjacent central summits on the same ridge.
Shishapangma was first climbed in 1964 by a Chinese expedition, which opened a standard route used by later teams. The peak is approached from the Tibetan Plateau side and features high glaciated terrain and long, crevassed glacier approaches.
The massif sits in central Tibet as part of the greater Himalayan range and is surrounded by high plateau and valley systems used by local pastoral communities and expeditions.
