Shirley Heights is a restored military lookout and gun battery on a hill overlooking English Harbour in southeastern Antigua. It forms part of the island’s historic harbour defenses and is a major viewpoint for the area.
The site provides sweeping views across English Harbour, Nelson’s Dockyard and out to nearby islands, with vantage points that attract photographers and visitors at sunset. The complex includes restored military buildings and terraces used for interpretation and visitor facilities.
Fortifications at Shirley Heights were established by the British in the 18th century as part of the defensive network for English Harbour and the naval facilities there; the location functioned as a lookout and artillery position to protect the anchorage. Restoration and conservation work in the 20th and 21st centuries has focused on stabilizing the ruins and adapting buildings for interpretation.
