Shire of Pine Rivers
Area Former local government area in Queensland, Australia
North of Brisbane, the former Shire of Pine Rivers centers on the Pine River corridor: parks, boat ramps, cycleways and small-town pubs draw locals and visitors heading to Moreton Bay islands or Brisbane’s northern suburbs.
The Shire of Pine Rivers was a local government area in southeast Queensland, Australia, north of Brisbane. It covered suburban communities and river corridors and was a functioning municipal council until 2008.
The area included suburban centres, parks and recreational corridors along the Pine River, providing local services, open-space reserves and river-based recreation. It was primarily a suburban and semi-rural local government area rather than a single tourist attraction.
The shire existed as a local government entity until state-driven council amalgamations in 2008, when it was merged into the Moreton Bay Region (formerly Moreton Bay Regional Council). Prior to amalgamation it administered local services, planning and community facilities for the area.
Geographically the former shire lay about 20 to 30 km north of Brisbane CBD in the Moreton Bay area, occupying lowland river plains along the Pine River and surrounding suburban suburbs.
- Amalgamation: Merged into the Moreton Bay Region in 2008 as part of statewide local government amalgamations.
- Distance from Brisbane: Located roughly 20 to 30 kilometres north of Brisbane CBD, occupying suburban and riverine lowlands around the Pine River.
