Shibe Park

Shibe Park was an early 20th-century baseball stadium in Philadelphia that opened in 1909 and became one of the first major league parks constructed of reinforced concrete and steel. It later operated under the name Connie Mack Stadium and hosted both the Philadelphia Athletics and the Philadelphia Phillies at different periods.

The ballpark was notable for its durable construction and long service as a professional baseball venue; it staged regular-season and postseason games during its decades of use. After closure as a major-league venue in 1970 the stadium structure was removed and the site redeveloped in subsequent years.

The ballpark occupied a block in North Philadelphia and served as a focal point for major-league baseball in the city through much of the 20th century. Its history is tied to Philadelphias baseball franchises and to early developments in stadium architecture.
