Shardara Reservoir is a large artificial lake on the Syr Darya river in southern Kazakhstan’s Turkistan Region. The reservoir forms a significant local water storage body used for irrigation and fisheries in the surrounding agricultural plain.
The impoundment was created in the Soviet era as part of regional water management on the Syr Darya and continues to function for water regulation and local economic uses. The lake shoreline supports small ports, fishing activity and irrigation infrastructure.
