Shahbulag Castle is an 18th-century fortress in the Aghdam District of Azerbaijan. It was built as a defensive stronghold and administrative center for the local khanate in the mid 1700s.
The complex comprises a compact fortified enclosure with masonry walls and internal service spaces; what remains today are the fortifications and ruins that outline the original plan. The site is visited for its historical architecture and as a regional heritage monument.
The castle was commissioned and constructed under Panah Ali Khan to secure territory and serve as a local seat of power. Over time the fortress fell out of primary strategic use as regional centers shifted and the structure deteriorated into ruin.
