Sha'am City
Village in Ras Al Khaimah emirate, United Arab Emirates
A windswept coastal village on Ras Al Khaimah’s northern shore, known for small fishing harbours, day trips by dhow, rocky beaches and shoreline snorkeling, plus seafood stalls serving the catch of the morning.

How to Get to Sha'am#
Sha’am (in the Emirate of Ras Al Khaimah) is reached most easily via Ras Al Khaimah International Airport (RKT) or by road from Dubai (DXB). RKT is the closest airport; frequent intercity buses and taxis connect Ras Al Khaimah to the rest of the UAE.
Ras Al Khaimah International Airport (RKT): RKT is the closest airport to Sha’am (Emirate of Ras Al Khaimah). From RKT you can take a metered taxi to Ras Al Khaimah city and nearby coastal villages; typical taxi trips to RAK city take about 15-25 minutes and cost roughly AED 25-45.
Dubai International Airport (DXB): Many international flights land at DXB. Options into Ras Al Khaimah from DXB include the intercity bus (see train/bus card) or long-distance taxi/ride-hail; expect 1-2 hours travel time depending on traffic. A taxi/ride-hail from DXB to Ras Al Khaimah is commonly in the low hundreds of AED (often AED 300-450) and takes around 1-1.5 hours.
Bus: Intercity buses connect Dubai and Ras Al Khaimah (for example RTA/other private intercity services). The E306 / similar long-distance services between Dubai (Al Ghubaiba/central points) and Ras Al Khaimah typically take about 1.5-2 hours; fares are generally in the range of AED 25-35. From Ras Al Khaimah city you will need a short taxi to reach Sha’am/village coastal areas.
Train: There is no national passenger rail link serving Ras Al Khaimah/Sha’am. The region is best reached by air, intercity bus or private car/taxi.
How to Get Around Sha'am#
Sha’am is easiest to navigate by car or taxi - public transport options are limited compared with Dubai. Rent a car for independence, or use taxis/ride-hail for point-to-point transfers; intercity buses are the budget option for arriving from Dubai.
- Car rental (AED 120-350/day) - Renting a car gives the most flexibility to explore coastal villages and small roads around Sha’am. Roads are generally good; a small SUV or compact car is usually sufficient. Fuel is inexpensive compared with many countries, and daily rental rates vary seasonally; parking in villages is typically easy.
- Metered taxi (AED 8-60) - Taxis are widely available from RKT and Ras Al Khaimah city to nearby towns and coastal spots. They run on meters (or fixed inter-emirate tariffs for longer trips); drivers are familiar with tourist spots but it’s helpful to confirm fare estimates for inter-emirate trips in advance.
- Ride-hailing (Careem / Uber) (AED 20-450) - Careem operates across the UAE and is a convenient alternative to local taxis for trips to and from airports and between cities. App fares vary with demand; for inter-emirate journeys (e.g., from Dubai) surge pricing can make trips costly. Good for one-off convenient transfers.
- Intercity bus (AED 20-35) - Public or private intercity buses connect Ras Al Khaimah with Dubai and other emirates. Buses are inexpensive and reliable but slower than taxis; they are best if you are on a budget and content with fixed schedules. From the bus station you will usually need a short taxi to reach remote villages.
- Local minibuses / shared taxis (AED 5-20) - Shared taxis and minibuses can be found for short local trips and are cheaper than private taxis. They are useful for short hops between nearby towns but schedules and routes are less regular and English may be limited.
- Walking - Walking is pleasant in village centres and along coastal stretches around Sha’am, but distances between villages are often too large to cover on foot. Use walking for short local exploration, especially along beaches and promenades.
