Seville Fair

The Seville Fair (Feria de Abril) is an annual weeklong festival in Seville, Andalusia, established in the 19th century and now one of the city’s largest social events. It combines private and public casetas, music, dancing, and equestrian displays.

The fair is centred on the Real de la Feria fairground where a decorative portada marks the entrance and thousands of casetas - private and public tents - line the streets for dining, flamenco and socialising. During daytime the event is known for horse-drawn carriage processions and equestrian displays; evenings feature illuminated streets, music and dancing.

Originally a livestock and agricultural fair in the 19th century, the event evolved into a social festival and was formalised in the 1800s. Over time it became a focal point for Sevillian society and a major tourist draw while retaining private, family-run casetas alongside public venues.

The fair takes place on a large purpose-built fairground in the Los Remedios district of Seville on the west bank of the Guadalquivir River, easily reached from the city centre by road and public transport.

• Timing: Held annually in Seville, the main celebrations traditionally begin two weeks after Easter and run for about a week.
• Best times to visit: Evening hours are best for seeing the illuminated gates and casetas, while daytime is when horse and carriage processions are most active.

• Portada (main gate): An ornate main entrance gate that marks the fairground and is rebuilt and decorated each year to a changing theme.
• Casetas: Rows of tents and marquees, both private and public, where families, clubs and institutions gather for food, flamenco and social events throughout the fair week.
• Real de la Feria (fairground): The fairground area in the Los Remedios district where daytime equestrian and carriage parades take place and evening illuminations and concerts are staged.
