How to Get to Serpukhov

Serpukhov is easiest reached from Moscow's airports (Domodedovo DME, Vnukovo VKO, Sheremetyevo SVO) or by rail via Serpukhov railway station. From the airports most people transfer into Moscow by Aeroexpress and then take a suburban train (elektrichka) or an intercity bus to Serpukhov.

By Air

Domodedovo (DME): Domodedovo is the closest major international airport to Serpukhov. The usual option is to take the Aeroexpress from Domodedovo to Moscow Paveletsky (around 35-45 min, ~500 ₽) and then transfer to a suburban elektrichka to Serpukhov (see Train section). A taxi direct from DME to Serpukhov typically takes 60-90 min depending on traffic and costs roughly 2,000-4,500 ₽.

Vnukovo (VKO) / Sheremetyevo (SVO): From Vnukovo take the Aeroexpress to Moscow Kievsky (about 35-45 min, ~500 ₽) or from Sheremetyevo take the Aeroexpress to Belorussky (about 35-45 min, ~500 ₽), then use the metro to reach Paveletskaya/Paveletsky or other Moscow stations offering suburban trains to Serpukhov. A direct taxi from either airport to Serpukhov is possible but can be long and expensive (typically 3,000-6,000 ₽ and 90-150 min depending on traffic).

By Train & Bus

Train: Serpukhov railway station (Серпухов) is the main hub in town. Regular suburban elektrichki connect Serpukhov with Moscow (you will normally connect via Moscow Paveletsky station); suburban journeys typically take around 1.5-2 hours and cost about 120-300 ₽ depending on the service. There are also occasional faster long‑distance and regional trains from Moscow with higher fares (usually 200-800 ₽) and shorter journey times.

Bus: Intercity buses and marshrutki (minibuses) run between Serpukhov and Moscow and nearby towns; many depart from Moscow’s southern bus terminals and from Podolsk. Travel time by coach or marshrutka to/from Moscow is typically 1.5-2 hours depending on traffic. Fares are generally in the 150-400 ₽ range; local bus services inside the region are cheaper (see Transport section).

How to Get Around Serpukhov

Getting around Serpukhov is straightforward: suburban trains and intercity buses handle most arrivals and departures, while local buses and taxis cover inner‑city movement. For most visitors, a combination of eletrichka (to/from Moscow) and walking or short taxi rides within town works best.
