Seokguram is an 8th-century stone Buddhist grotto located on Mount Toham in North Gyeongsang Province, South Korea, and is inscribed with nearby Bulguksa in the Gyeongju Historic Areas World Heritage listing. It houses a large seated Buddha carved in white granite within a domed stone chamber.

How to Get to Seokguram #
Seokguram Grotto is on Mount Toham near Bulguksa Temple outside Gyeongju. From central Gyeongju take local buses or a taxi from Gyeongju Bus Terminal or central bus stops toward Bulguksa Temple; from Bulguksa there is a paved, uphill walking trail of roughly 1.5-2 km (about 30-40 minutes) that leads to Seokguram. By car it is a short drive (about 20-30 minutes) from Gyeongju city via local mountain roads to the Bulguksa/Seokguram parking areas.
Tips for Visiting Seokguram #
- Start from Bulguksa temple and take the paved trail or shuttle up to Seokguram-allow 20-40 minutes for the uphill walk and time your visit for early morning or late afternoon to avoid peak tour groups.
- Buy a combined ticket for Bulguksa and Seokguram and check opening hours in advance: the grotto has regulated visiting times and photography inside the grotto is prohibited, so plan accordingly.
- After visiting the grotto, walk to the nearby viewing area for panoramic views over the East Sea-many visitors focus only on the interior statue and miss the mountain outlooks.
