Seminole Canyon State Park and Historic Site

Seminole Canyon State Park and Historic Site is a protected area in southwest Texas that conserves a limestone canyon and extensive prehistoric rock art. The park preserves archaeological sites and canyon landscapes along the Rio Grande.

Visitors can view and learn about prehistoric pictographs in rock shelters, most notably those in the canyon’s prominent shelters which are interpreted at the park. Trails and a visitor centre provide context for the archaeology and natural setting; guided interpretation is often used for close access to fragile sites.

The canyon contains rock art and archaeological deposits created by Native peoples over many centuries; these prehistoric cultural resources are the reason the area was set aside for protection. State park management maintains and interprets the cultural and natural resources.

The park lies along the Rio Grande in Val Verde County in southwest Texas near the small community of Comstock, close to the U.S.-Mexico border.
