How to Get to Sejong
Sejong is a planned administrative city in central South Korea; the nearest airport is Cheongju International Airport (CJJ) and the nearest high‑speed rail hub is Osong Station (KTX). Many travelers arrive via Incheon (ICN) or Seoul and continue by KTX or express bus to Osong or Sejong's bus terminal.
Cheongju International Airport (CJJ): Cheongju International is the closest airport to Sejong (roughly 30-45 km depending on your destination inside Sejong). From CJJ there are airport/limousine buses and local intercity buses that serve Sejong and nearby Cheongju; typical bus journeys take about 40-60 minutes. Taxis to central Sejong take roughly 35-50 minutes; fares are approximately KRW 40,000-60,000 depending on traffic.
Incheon International Airport (ICN): Incheon is Korea’s main international gateway; to reach Sejong you’ll usually take the AREX or airport bus into Seoul and then a KTX or express bus onward. AREX express to Seoul Station takes about 43 minutes and costs KRW 9,500; from Seoul Station you can catch KTX trains to Osong (about 50-60 minutes) or express buses to Sejong (total door‑to‑door journey commonly 2.5-3.5 hours). A direct airport limousine/taxi to Sejong is possible but long and expensive (well over KRW 150,000).
Train: The nearest high‑speed rail hub is Osong Station (오송역) on the KTX/Gyeongbu/Honam lines; many KTX services stop here. Osong → Sejong by taxi or local bus takes around 15-25 minutes; KTX journey times from Seoul to Osong are ~50-60 minutes (fares vary by service and time of booking). For regional travel you can also use Daejeon Station and transfer onward by local bus or taxi.
Bus: Sejong has a central intercity/express bus terminal (세종고속버스터미널) with frequent services to Seoul, Daejeon, Cheongju and other cities. Express buses to Seoul typically take 1.5-2 hours; regional trips to Daejeon or Cheongju are shorter (30-50 minutes). Local city buses circulate across the planned districts and between the government complex and terminals-they’re the main way locals get around within Sejong.
How to Get Around Sejong
Sejong is best navigated by a mix of local buses and short taxi rides; KTX to Osong or express buses are the usual arrival choices for intercity travel. Within the planned districts walking and cycling are pleasant for short trips, but a car or frequent use of buses/taxis is more practical for wider travel across the city.
- KTX / Intercity Train (Osong Station) (KRW 15,000-35,000) - Osong Station is the main high‑speed rail access for Sejong-most long‑distance KTX services stop there. From Osong take a short taxi or local bus into Sejong's government complex (15-25 minutes). KTX is the fastest way from Seoul or southern cities; book in advance for the best fares and seats.
- Intercity & Express Buses (KRW 6,000-18,000) - Sejong's express bus terminal offers direct buses to Seoul, Daejeon, Cheongju and other regional hubs. Buses are frequent and competitive with KTX for price, especially from nearby cities; expect travel times of about 1.5-2 hours to Seoul and under an hour to Daejeon/Cheongju. Buy tickets at the terminal or via Korean bus apps; luggage space is generous on express services.
- Local City Buses (KRW 1,200-2,000) - Local buses link residential districts, the government complex and the main terminals-this is the cheapest way to get around Sejong. Routes are practical but the city is spread out, so journeys inside certain districts can still take 20-40 minutes. Have a T‑money transport card to tap on and transfer across services seamlessly.
- Taxis & Ride‑hailing (KakaoTaxi) (KRW 3,000-40,000) - Taxis are plentiful and straightforward; KakaoTaxi is the dominant app for calling rides and works in English to some extent. Short trips across the city are inexpensive (metered fares); expect higher fares for airport transfers or during late hours. Taxis are a good option when you have luggage or arrive late at night.
- Car rental / Driving (KRW 50,000-120,000 per day) - Sejong's layout and dispersed government complexes make driving convenient if you want full flexibility. Roads are modern and parking is widely available at official buildings and commercial areas, but check parking rules in residential zones. Driving is especially useful for day trips to nearby attractions or for schedules that public transport doesn't serve well.
- Walking - Sejong was designed with pedestrians in mind in many districts-walking between nearby offices, parks and facilities is easy and pleasant. However, the city is large; for longer trips you'll usually need bus or taxi. Wear comfortable shoes and use local maps (KakaoMap/Naver) for pedestrian routes.
